Balkadu Trailer बाळकडू एक झलक

Watched the trailer of Balkadu... and it certainly does not look like movie "based on the life of Balasaheb Thackeray" as was being touted... but more on the "asmita" instilled in Marathi Manoos by him. Let's hope it is not just a rabble rouser but in the league of "Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy" that helped 3Ms to introspect why have they reached this situation!

3Mpedia for the uninitiated: 'Balkadu' is a traditional ayurvedic medicine given to toddlers to improve their digestion. It is also an metaphor in Marathi for values instilled in your formative years. Here it is an intended pun as "Bal" also refers to Balasaheb!

Marathi Connection of Gangs of Wasseypur

The earthy tunes of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ are amazingly local but global at the same time. 3M was sure the music director has to be a guy with roots in the Gangetic belt. Much to his amusement, it turned out to be a Womaniya… that too of Marathi origin! Kudos to Sneha Khanwalkar for being part of a rare breed in India – Female Music Director.

3Mpedia: The only Marathi lady to ventured into music direction in Indian films was Lata Mangeshkar under the pseudonym – Anandghan (The Happy Cloud)

Ajintha अजिंठा - Marathi Movie

Even before Bipasha Basu's Singularity is released, Nitin Chandrakant Desai comes up with another Brit-Marathi love story called Ajintha. Supposed to be based of true love story between Major Robert Gill and a local tribal girl, when he was commissioned to make copies of the frescoes at Ajanta Caves in the 19th century! Sonali Kulkarni essays the role of the tribal girl while Philip Scot plays her paramour... but only time will tell if she has been taken for her hot body or acting skills!

3M loved the stylised logo inspired by Modi Script... also the fact that the makers have used the original name of the location Ajintha, instead of the anglicised version - Ajanta!

3Mpedia: In 1977, V Shantaram directed a movie called Chaani in which Ranjana Deshmukh plays a love child of a British gentleman and a tribal girl from Maharashtra!

And below is the original image of Major Robert Gill!

GREAT BHET: Aamir Khan's Marathi Interview on IBN Lokmat

3M loved the line "Learning the language out of love not compulsion" and hopes this is not just another promotion of 'Satyameva Jayate'!

Bipasha plays a Maratha Princess (???) in Singularity

Trailer of the much awaited Hollywood flick Singularity based on the First Anglo-Maratha War was a big disappointment. Bipasha Basu is supposed to be Tulaja Naik, a Maratha Princess who falls in live with British Officer Jay Fennel (played by hunk Josh Harnett)... but her costumes look anything but Maratha... rest of the crew (including Atul Kulkarni) looks straight out of some Hollywood fiction film based on Arabian Nights!

3M feels that Terry Ryan, the costume designer, should have consulted Bhanu Athaiya for the costumes!

Below is a reference image for Maratha Royal Costume...

Shammi Kapoor is no more...

Seen here in the immortal song 'Govinda Ala Re Ala'... probably the most authentic portrayal of the Dahi Handi festivities in Mumbai!
