A blog that captures the happenings in Maharashtra and rest of the Marathi World (Bruhanmaharashtra) through the eyes of a 3M – Madhyamvargiya Marathi Manoos (Middleclass Marathi Man). Neither is it a view of the anglicized minority which has lost touch with its roots... nor does it speak for the Marathi masses who may lack the “worldview”. Just a somewhere-in-between viewpoint… but a firm viewpoint indeed!

Chiffon and Pearls
(1892–1968)
Indiradevi, daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad of Baroda and mother of Mahrani Gayatridevi of Jaipur, introduced the famous ‘Chiffon Saree and string of pearls’ combo in India. She is seen in the painting above in a Maratha style nine yards Chiffon Saree. Please notice that the styling here is distinctly French… International without forgetting the roots!

Solapuri ‘Haute Couture’
3M has a weakness for fabrics... especially for handloom. So he was trawling the net for something interesting from Maharashtra - Mashru, Himroo, Paithani, Narayan Peth, Solapuri Chadar... सोलापुरी चादर??? has 3M gone crazy? How can such a lowly fabric be included in the list of fine fabrics? Care to check out this snap below?

Well... even 3M was amused to see this innovative use of our humble chadar by James Ferreira @ Lakme Fashion Week! But sadly due to Government apathy this unique heritage is dying out...
